About Nā Mea Ho’okani

The Nā Mea Ho’okani and its programs are dedicated as an institution of protecting and perpetuating the traditions and cultural heritage of its musical arts. Our work is to recognize, acknowledge, respect, and exemplify the living spirit of the culture and the “mele.” Through the understanding of the traditions and cultural riches, spirituality and beliefs, tales and folklore, fiction and non fictional stories and legends of old Hawaii, the oral traditions and its many grass roots teachings throughout the islands, the vast Pacific, and abroad. To better understand and minister our knowledge and wisdom by effectively and appropriately coordinate creative workshops, implementation of suitable resources and fundamental exercises by collaborating with public and private resources to engage a new frontier and outlook on the Hawaiian culture and the musical arts.
